The Antonio Spurs were one of the founding members of the American Basketball Association (ABA) in 1967 under the name Dallas Chaparrals. After playing for a short time as the Texas Chaparrals, the team was renamed the San Antonio Spurs in 1973. The Spurs were integrated into the NBA in 1976. They have won the championship five times so far (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2014).
