The team was founded in 1993 by the Walt Disney Company under the name Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Since 2006, the team has been playing under its current name, separated from the Disney corporation, after being renamed. The Ducks are one of the franchises that emerged from the league expansion in the 1990s. In the 2002/03 season, the team unexpectedly reached the Stanley Cup final for the first time, before winning the prestigious trophy for the first time in the 2006/07 season.
